Paper work...

......I HATE THE CHILDCARE ALLOWANCE FORM!

As I am parent as well as a soon to be student nurse I need to fill out a few extra bit of paperwork as well as the usual NHS student bursary application online, which took a while to do and needs a load of supporting paperwork sent in as well.

The childcare form is just to claim back some of money that I will pay nursery so that my daughter can do extra hours while i'm in Uni.

Well the form that needs to be filled in by me then signed by the nursery. It is very long and needs an estimated childcare cost breakdown. Which doesn't sound too bad until you realise that they want it worked out weekly, minus the free hour entitlements.

which means a large table to fill in

I asked our nursery, who are great and very helpful but they have sent me the costs worked out termly and I can't get the figures to add up as i'm not sure on the session prices for a full and half day session.
I also need to minus off the 15 free hours a week entitlement and also the weeks when she isn't in as its a term time only nursery.
It feels more complex and frustrating than some of the equations I had to work out during my pharmaceutical sciences degree.

Once it's complete i'm sure that I will be a lot happier, but no doubt i'll have something else that I need to fill in soon.

Two months till my nursing degree starts.

So its now July, Only 2 months to go :D
I'm really not sure where the last few months have gone but they have flown over.
I thought that i should do a quick update on things that have happened in case anyone ever reads this looking for information on becoming a student nurse.

In the last few months since I firmed Edge Hill as my choice for uni I've been filling in forms and sorting out information in preparation to starting in September.
They sent out paperwork in June that needed completing by the start of July, DBS checks and health questionnaires, nothing to complicated.

I have completed my new student health questionnaire and had it signed by my GP, I have also had my occupational health check. For me it meant chatting to the doctor in Aintree well-being, having bloods taken to check for immunity to measles, mumps and rubella as well as having my 1st Hep B injection, I have to go back of the other 2 Hep B injections over the next 2 months and then a blood test to check immunity.
It was all really straight forward although I did feel like i'd been punched in the arm for a day or so.

I also completed my DBS check using the online form and by taking evidence to uni to be checked, so I have completed all the requirements that I had for the course.

I am lucky that as a mature student I'm not waiting on exam results as I know other people are. It's a long and stressful wait to see if you did well enough and managed to get the results you needed. I remember it from my 1st uni degree.

I know that the next 2 months will fly by, and I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I cannot wait to start on the course and begin my career as a nurse. I know that its going to be tough. Training while being a parent to a 3 year old isn't going to be easy but I am lucky to have a great and growing support network.

Fingers crossed that I will keep this blog updated to document my journey to becoming a nurse.
